The Egyptian DJ and musician Ramy, known as Raam Band, has taken the initiative to revive the musical heritage by performing a traditional song with the popular Egyptian artist Hajazi Matkal in the United States of America.
Raam Band revealed that he intends to incorporate some traditional Egyptian music from the renowned artist Rais Matkal by re-releasing it with the vocals of Hajazi Matkal’s daughter. He explained that he had discussed this idea with Hajazi since 2010, but it was put on hold due to the circumstances of the revolution. However, he decided to revisit the idea at this time on the condition that it would be filmed as a music video. He further explained that the idea emerged after he presented a collection of traditional African heritage music, which he distributed in collaboration with several local African bands in Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar during his trip to Africa. He also held some music concerts in North and East Africa.
Raam Band was also influenced by his collaborations with Eastern Jazz musician Yahya Khalil and African jazz musician Ebo Taylor from Ghana during some of his music concerts.
Raam Band clarified that he began combining Eastern and African musical heritage with global music during his performances in Porto Ghaleb Village in Marsa Alam. It served as a showcase for music from Egypt and the Arab world, attracting many international stars from Europe and America, including BeyoncĂ©, Amr Diab, Sha’il, Abdullah Al Ruwaished, Haifa Wehbe, Myriam Fares, Nancy Ajram, Mohamed Mounir, Mohamed Hamaki, and Mohamed Fouad.
He added that this experience had a significant impact on encouraging him to weave together his Egyptian and global musical heritage with Hajazi Matkal in a song that embodies the spirit and character of Egypt.
