The Egyptian DJ and musician Ramy, known as Raam Band, is dedicated to reviving musical heritage by performing traditional songs with the Egyptian folk artist Hajazi Metkal in the United States. Raam Band has revealed his intention to reinterpret some of the traditional Egyptian music of the renowned artist El-Rais Metkal, featuring the vocals of Metkal’s daughter. He explained that he first proposed this idea to Hajazi back in 2010, but due to the circumstances of the revolution, it was put on hold. Now, they have decided to revive the idea, with the condition that it be filmed as a music video. The concept of revisiting these songs came to Raam Band after he showcased a collection of traditional African heritage music during his collaboration with various local African bands in Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar during his trip to Africa. He also mentioned being influenced by his musical experiences with Eastern Jazz musicians, such as collaborating with the world-renowned Eastern Jazz player Yahya Khalil and the Ghanaian African Jazz musician Ibo Taylor. Raam Band emphasized that he began combining Eastern and African musical heritage with global music during his performances in Porto Ghaleb Village in Marsa Alam, where he presented music from Egypt and the Arab world, serving as a fertile platform for numerous international stars, including Beyoncé, Nabil Shuail, Abdullah Al Rowaishid, Haifa Wehbe, Myriam Fares, Nancy Ajram, Mohamed Mounir, Mohamed Hamaki, and Mohamed Fouad. This experience had a significant impact on encouraging him to weave together his Egyptian and global musical heritage with Hajazi Metkal, giving their songs a distinct Egyptian character and persona.
